Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions: 1. The Difference Between "Temporary Stay Permit (Online Application)" and "Overseas Individuals Online Application System" (Online System)

**Q1: What are the differences between the "Temporary Stay Permit (Online)" and the "Overseas Persons Online Application System" (Online System)? How should Hong Kong/Macau residents choose the appropriate application platform?** **A1:** 1. The "Temporary Stay Permit (Online)," or "Online," is only applicable to individuals born in Hong Kong or Macau, and those who were born outside of Hong Kong or Macau but entered Taiwan as permanent residents of Hong Kong or Macau after 1983. It applies to individuals staying in Taiwan for no more than 30 days with a Hong Kong/Macau Special Administrative Region passport or a BNO passport as a Hong Kong/Macau permanent resident (without a foreign passport or Mainland Chinese passport). 2. The "Overseas Persons Online Application System," or "Online System," is suitable for first-time applicants who were not born in Hong Kong or Macau, or those staying in Taiwan for more than 30 days, or applying multiple times. 3. Mainland residents residing in Hong Kong who hold a Hong Kong resident identity card (not permanent) and have a Mainland Chinese passport as well as a travel permit for Hong Kong and Macau or a Hong Kong visa identification booklet ("DI") are currently not eligible to apply. **Q2: Was the landing visa simultaneously opened on February 20, 2023?** **A2:** Yes, but it is recommended that you apply for "Online" or through the "Online System" for an entry and exit permit beforehand. This will make your entry smoother and avoid spending time waiting to apply in Taiwan and incurring additional fees (NT$300) for applying for a temporary entry stay permit, or being denied entry due to not meeting the application requirements. **Q3: Previously, I entered Taiwan using a foreign passport (such as an Australian passport), but it has now expired. Can I use a Special Administrative Region passport to enter?** **A3:** No. Your identity as a foreigner is already recorded in your entry information, and you will have to enter Taiwan under that status from now on. If you wish to later enter Taiwan using a Hong Kong/Macau Special Administrative Region passport, you must provide proof of renunciation of that nationality before applying for an Entry Permit (through the Online System). **Q4: Previously, I entered Taiwan using a Special Administrative Region passport or a BNO passport, but it has now expired. Can I use a foreign passport (such as an Australian passport) to enter?** **A4:** Yes, but you will have to enter Taiwan as a foreigner from then on. **Q5: If I have questions about Entry Permits, visas, etc., who should I contact?** **A5:** 1. Entry Permits (including the "Overseas Persons Online Application System" (Online System) and "Temporary Stay Permit" (Online)): Phone: (852) 2525-8316 2. Visas (with a foreign passport): Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (Hong Kong), Phone: (852) 2887-5011 3. Macau Office, Phone: (853) 2830-6289

Frequently Asked Questions: 2. Was the landing visa opened simultaneously on February 20, 2023?

A2: Yes, but it is recommended to apply for "online entry permit" or through the "online system" first. Entry will be smoother, avoiding time spent waiting for application and additional fees (NT$300) for applying for a temporary landing permission upon arrival, or being denied entry due to ineligible application.

Common Questions: 3. I previously entered Taiwan with a foreign passport (such as an Australian passport), but it is now expired. Can I use a special administrative region passport to enter Taiwan now?

A3: No. Because your entry information has recorded your identity as a foreigner, you will need to enter Taiwan as a foreigner in the future. If you wish to enter Taiwan with a Hong Kong/Macao Special Administrative Region passport in the future, you must provide proof of renouncing your nationality before applying for an Entry Permit (online system application for stay).

FAQ: 4. I previously entered Taiwan with a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport or BNO passport, but they have now expired. Can I now use a foreign passport (such as an Australian passport) to enter Taiwan?
