New Regulations Notice (2024 Updated Edition)

Friends planning to climb Mount Fuji, please note! To alleviate overcrowding on the hiking trails, the Yamanashi County Assembly of Japan passed a new regulation on March 4, 2024, which will come into effect on July 1, 2024. All visitors climbing Mount Fuji via the **Yoshida Trail** will be charged a **¥2,000 "access fee" per person**. In addition, during the Mount Fuji climbing season (July to mid-September), access gates will be installed at the Fifth Station trailhead, **limiting entry to 4,000 people per day**. Furthermore, passage will be prohibited between 4:00 PM and 3:00 AM the next day. This restriction does not apply to those who have booked a Mount Fuji mountain hut or local residents.

Best Climbing Season and Time

Mount Fuji is only open for climbing during the two summer months, from July 1st to September 10th. Mid-July to mid-August is generally the peak season for climbing, and mountain huts and campsites near the summit are often fully booked. It is recommended to book in advance. If you want to avoid the crowds, you can choose to climb in early July or September, but be aware of weather changes. The best time to climb is in the early morning to avoid the scorching heat during the day. Plan to arrive at the summit the night before and enjoy the beautiful sunrise. Temperatures drop sharply after nightfall, so it is strongly recommended to wear warm clothing. After reaching the summit, descend quickly to avoid exhaustion.
