Transportation in Taipei is convenient, with a wide variety of public transportation options to choose from. This time, we have compiled information about common transportation tools in Taipei for everyone. Whether you are visiting for the first time or an experienced traveler who wants to explore Taipei in depth or travel to other counties, you can easily tour Taipei!

MRT or Subway

In Taipei City, the most convenient transportation is the MRT. The carriages are comfortable and clean, and there's no traffic congestion problem. Therefore, it's a very convenient choice for both locals and tourists. I recommend downloading "Taipei Metro Go," which allows you to check suggested routes and times at any time! There are three ways to purchase tickets:
**Single Ticket:** Can be purchased at the ticket vending machines at the metro station. **EasyCard (悠遊卡):** Similar to Octopus card, can be used for taking the metro, buses, or daily shopping, requires pre-charging. On the subway map, there are actually light rail lines included. The light rails were built later and have two routes: the Tamsui Light Rail and the Ankang Light Rail. You can visit several theme stations designed by Ji-mi (a Taiwanese cartoonist) and spend a leisurely time at Fisherman's Wharf. With a one-day pass, you can conveniently enter and exit this unmanned station.

Bus

Taipei's bus routes are extensive, especially if you want to go to scenic areas, there is usually a bus that can reach there, and the price is very cheap. However, the frequency may be less or prone to traffic jams. It is recommended that you use an EasyCard for all bus fares and remember to tap your card when boarding and disembarking. In addition to using Google Maps to check the waiting time, you can also download "Taipei Bus Wait."

Car rental

Unless you want to go to places with inconvenient transportation, it's actually not recommended to drive in Taipei. Besides being right-hand drive, there is heavy traffic and public transportation is already very convenient. However, if you still need to rent a car, remember to prepare your passport, international driver's license, credit card, and entry permit. Although it should be possible to use a Hong Kong driving license directly in Taiwan now, many people are still asked to show an international driver's license. It's best to apply for an international driver's license in advance if you want to rent a car smoothly!

Bicycle

During their travels in Taipei, many people go to the riverside park to ride bicycles. Especially since Taipei's bicycle path planning is excellent, the editor used to frequently rent ubike and directly ride 40km to Tamsui for a day trip. Ubike is Taipei's shared bicycle system with many rental and return stations. However, be careful, there are ubike and ubike2.0, their rental and return stations are not interconnected. Now it is recommended that you rent 2.0. You can download "YouBike Smiling Bike Official Version" to check how many rental and return posts there are at nearby stations!

Now you can use an EasyCard or credit card to rent a car. Just register on the app or at the kiosk machine, fill out your member information, and bind your payment method. Then, operate the button on the vehicle of your choice, with charges calculated per half hour: 4 hours or less: NT$10 per half hour 4 to 8 hours: NT$20 per half hour 8 hours or more: NT$40 per half hour

Taiwan Railways Administration

If you need to travel to other counties or cities, you can consider taking the Taiwan Railway (TRA). It covers almost all counties and cities in Taiwan. A trip from Taipei to Kaohsiung takes about 3.5 hours, making it a mid-range option in terms of price and speed. The biggest difference from the MRT is that your ticket has limited train and even seat options. You can't just see the train and board it directly. If you want to ride, I recommend downloading "TRA e-Tickets," as booking tickets and using the system are very convenient.

High-speed rail (high-speed railway)

If you want to travel quickly between counties and cities, I suggest choosing the high-speed rail. It's much faster, taking only about 1.5 hours from Taipei to Kaohsiung. However, the price is almost twice that of the Taiwan Railways. You can decide based on whether you want a "quick trip" or a "budget travel". Keep in mind that the high-speed rail doesn't pass through as many counties. Download the "Taiwan High Speed Rail" app to see if it meets your travel needs. Currently, there are 80% off one-way tickets and unlimited ride passes available. Purchase them in advance for a worry-free journey!

Hail a cab.

In fact, in Taipei, it's very convenient to hail a taxi on the street or call one using Uber. Others like LINE TAXI and 55688 are also used by many people.

Taoyuan Airport to Taipei

With so many transportation options available, how do you get from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei? There are actually three main ways: the Airport MRT, private car transfers, and shuttle buses. You can choose the option that best suits your budget, destination, and mobility needs.
Airport MRT Ticket (including Taipei Metro Ticket): Cheap and fast, with multiple stops. Purchase link: [Link] Airport Pick-up & Drop-off Service: If you have a lot of luggage, or are traveling with children or the elderly, it is recommended to book a direct private car service.
